Dominican Republic eTicket – Frequently Asked Questions
Already know the basics and just need your specific question answered? This page covers the situations travelers actually run into — family groups, transit stops, mistakes after submitting, lost QR codes, and more — that don’t always get covered in a general guide. Looking to apply, or want the full step-by-step process first? Visit our Dominican Republic eTicket application form or read our complete eTicket guide.
Who Needs to Complete It?
Do infants and young children need their own eTicket record?
Yes. Every traveler is required to be included on an eTicket — there’s no age exemption. Infants and children don’t need to sign anything themselves; a parent or legal guardian enters their details as part of the family or individual submission.
Are Dominican citizens and residents required to complete the eTicket too?
Yes. The eTicket applies to everyone entering or leaving the Dominican Republic on a commercial flight — Dominican nationals and legal residents included, not just foreign tourists.
I’m only in transit and won’t leave the airport — do I still need one?
If you stay inside the airport and never pass through Dominican immigration (a same-airport connecting flight), you generally don’t need an eTicket. If you leave the airport for any reason, or your connection requires you to clear immigration, you do. When your itinerary is unclear on this, it’s safer to check directly with your airline before you fly.
What if I’m arriving by private plane, yacht, or cruise ship instead of a commercial flight?
The standard online eTicket is built around commercial flight arrivals. Non-commercial arrivals (private aircraft, yachts, cruise ships) typically use a different physical Customs Declaration and Embarkation/Disembarkation process instead. If you’re arriving this way, confirm the correct process with your operator or the port authority ahead of time.
I have dual citizenship — which passport determines whether I need the eTicket?
The eTicket is required regardless of nationality, so this doesn’t change whether you need one. What matters is which passport you’re traveling on and presenting at check-in and immigration — make sure your eTicket details match that exact passport, not the other one.
Timing and Changes
Can I complete the eTicket too early?
There’s no penalty for completing it well in advance — you can submit it as soon as you have your confirmed flight details, even months ahead of travel. Just make sure the information stays accurate; if anything changes, you’ll need to update or resubmit it before you fly.
My flight got delayed or rescheduled after I already submitted my eTicket — what happens?
If your date, flight number, or arrival details change, your original eTicket no longer matches your real itinerary. You’ll need to submit an updated or new eTicket reflecting the correct flight information before you travel, so what you present at the airport matches what’s actually happening.
Does the eTicket expire if my trip gets pushed back by several weeks?
An eTicket is tied to the specific flight details you entered, not a fixed expiration date. If your trip moves, the information becomes outdated rather than “expired” — either way, you’ll need a corrected version before departure.
Groups and Families
Can one person submit the eTicket for their whole family or travel group?
Yes, but every individual traveler’s details still need to be entered correctly within that group submission — names, passport numbers, and dates of birth for each person, even children. One QR code can then cover the whole group listed on that form.
What if members of my group are flying in on different dates?
Each traveler’s arrival details need to match their actual flight. If your group is splitting into separate flights or dates, it’s generally cleaner to submit separate eTickets reflecting each person’s real itinerary, rather than forcing mismatched dates into one group form.
Mistakes and Problems
I noticed a typo in my passport number (or a name) after submitting — what do I do?
Don’t travel with mismatched documents. You’ll need to correct the entry before your flight — either through the platform’s modification/consultation option if available, or by submitting a corrected eTicket. Airlines and immigration compare your eTicket details against your actual passport, so accuracy matters more than speed here.
I lost my QR code or can’t find the confirmation email — what now?
Check your email’s spam or promotions folder first, since confirmation emails sometimes land there. If you genuinely can’t locate it, you can typically retrieve it again through the eTicket platform’s lookup/consultation option using your passport details, or contact support for help resending it.
My flight was cancelled after I paid for the service — can I get a refund or reuse my payment?
This depends on the provider you used and how far your application had progressed. If you used a paid third-party consultancy, check that provider’s specific refund policy — most only refund if the process hadn’t started or the eTicket wasn’t approved yet. If you used the free official government platform, there’s no fee to recover in the first place.
Legal, Safety, and Data
What actually happens if I skip the eTicket entirely?
Airlines and immigration authorities can deny boarding or entry to travelers without a valid, completed eTicket. It’s treated as a mandatory compliance document, not an optional convenience — skipping it risks real disruption to your trip, not just a formality.
Is my personal information safe when I submit it online?
Your eTicket data (passport details, travel dates, contact information) is collected for immigration, customs, and security purposes and is retained by Dominican authorities. If you’re using a private assistance service rather than the government platform directly, check that provider’s privacy policy for how they handle and store your data separately.
